The psychometric qualities of a short version of the multidimensional overprotective parenting scale

The Multidimensional Overprotective Parenting Scale (MOPS) is a 35-item questionnaire assessing two dimensions of parental overprotection. Given its substantial length, the present research presents development and psychometric properties short version MOPS (S-MOPS). Four independent samples were used (Sample 1, N = 315 Swiss adolescents; Sample 2, 377 Belgian adolescents young adults; 3, 312 Georgian 4, 467 parents). Item selection based on factor analysis resulted in 16-item version, comprising 10 items for anxious overprotection 6 ego-enhancing S-MOPS similar to those across with high reliability, stable two-factor structure, very associations theoretically relevant parenting adjustment variables. Overall, appears be promising instrument use cross-national multi-informant approach.
